Dear Family and Friends,
|
It is almost that time again. Celebration X will take place Wednesday, November 23, through Sunday, November 27. We are looking forward to yet another exciting fun-filled weekend with you. In addition to the usual Celebration activities, we will have a film screening of the documentary "When I Rise," the story of Ms. Barbara Conrad and her experience of being in the first class to integrate the University of Texas. After winning the title role, Ms. Conrad was not permitted to sing in the opera becuase of her race. She later went on to perform with many prestigious opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. The screening of this documentary will be an enjoyable experience whether or not you are a classical music lover or not. “When I Rise" was produced by the Briscoe Center for American History at The University of Texas at Austin and premiered on Independent Lens on PBS. Ms. Conrad and Alison Beck, Associate Director of the Briscoe Center and Co-Producer of the film will answer questions following the screening.
Again, we have a great lineup pf musicians, and visual artists who will share their talents and provide a weekend of top notch entertainment. We are returning to the same hotel, the Antlers Hilton. They are very supportive of our project and are in the best location. There will be a nice souvenir journal which you are welcome to place an ad or message of your choosing. As has been the case for the past few celebrations.
